Ronda Rousey Tells Ellen About Having Suicidal Thoughts Following Her Loss To Holly Holm

Trigger warning. This article discusses mental heath, depression and suicide.
Ronda Rousey has spoken of the emotional distress she suffered following her loss to Holly Holm at UFC 193, to no more comforting a figure than Ellen. The former champ recounted her suicidal feelings as she recuperated in the hospital, after succumbing to Holm’s match-winning knockout. “Honestly, my thought in the medical room, I was sitting in the corner and was like, 'What am I anymore if I'm not this?' Literally sitting there thinking about killing myself,” she said. “In that exact second, I'm like, 'I'm nothing. What do I do anymore? No one gives a s*** about me anymore without this.'" Rousey then told Ellen that she found solace with her boyfriend, fellow UFC fighter Travis Browne. "I looked up and saw my man, Travis, was standing there. I'm looking up at him and was just like, 'I need to have his babies; I need to stay alive.'" You can check out a portion of her interview below.Rousey is just the latest sportsperson to open up about their mental health, following Dwayne Johnson and Buddy Franklin. Hopefully their candid discussions will help remind those who need help that not even our best sportspeople are immune to such feelings.
