The Second Season of "13 Reasons Why" Arrives (*Checks Watch*) This Month?!

Trigger Warning: This article discusses suicide.

Netflix has announced the premiere date for the second season of its global hit, 13 Reasons Why, and guess what? It’s less than three weeks away. So, start cancelling your late-May plans!

(Sorry, International Virtual Assistants Day and World Fiddle Day. Better luck in 2019.)

13 Reasons Why S2 will launch on Friday 18 May, almost 14 months after the first season landed.

Yes, there’s a trailer (of sorts).

Showrunner Brian Yorkey previously said a “new piece of technology for 13-year-olds to Google” would take the nostalgic place of cassettes in the new season, and from the looks of the date announcement video, it’s polaroids.

According to Netflix's official statement, Season Two will focus on (spoiler alert) "the aftermath of Hannah's death and the start of our characters' complicated journeys toward healing and recovery."

Want more? "Liberty High prepares to go on trial, but someone will stop at nothing to keep the truth surrounding Hannah's death concealed. A series of ominous polaroids lead Clay and his classmates to uncover a sickening secret and a conspiracy to cover it up."

Earlier this year, Netflix began working to soften the blow of the sure-to-be-controversial new season, releasing a minute-long clip to precede the latest episodes featuring actors Katherine Langford, Dylan Minnette, Alisha Boe and Justin Prentice. In it, they emphasise that the show is "fictional" and deals with real-world issues like "sexual assault, substance abuse, suicide and more."

The clip also encourages viewers to reach out to "a parent, a friend, a school counsellor or an adult you trust, call a local helpline or go to 13reasonswhy.info," the latter of which Netflix has updated with crisis resources and a viewing guide.
