"Red Dead Redemption 2" Isn't Just About Being a Gun-Slinging Cowboy; You Can Fish Too

Take a break from pistol-wielding in Red Dead Redemption 2.

Today's the day many have been waiting years for. Red Dead Redemption 2 (RDR2) has been unleashed to Australia's hot little hands and we're just starting to wade through the immense amount of content the game has to offer.

But aside from the 60-hour long main storyline that's bound to keep you occupied for weeks and months, RDR2 has added a tonne of new gameplay additions.

Like every great game to exist (Animal Crossing, anybody?), RDR2 has added the mechanic of fishing into the game and it's getting fans giddy.

So, how does it work?

Well, first off, you want to find a body of water to hit up and you'll need a rod, which will come to you in a mission in Chapter 2.

Once that's been unlocked, you just wade into some water, whip out your rod and cast it using the same controls as gun shooting. The best time to fish, as the game reiterates, is during dusk and dawn so you'll have to plan your early morning and late evening fish sessions around the in-game time and realistic weather system.

There are also apparently more than 200 species of animals in the game and you can bet a fair chunk of them would be fish or at least, water-dwellers.

To take your role-playing fantasies to the next level, you can even pretend that Arthur Morgan, once anti-hero and master of heists, decided to turn to a life of fishing to compensate for his heinous crimes, ditching the main storyline altogether (at least, temporarily). The possibilities are pretty much infinite.

Watch 15 minutes of fishing content below to satiate your thirst.

You can purchase Red Dead Redemption 2 now on PS4 and Xbox in stores all around Australia.
