One-Point Wins and Huge Goals: The Top 5 Moments of AFL Round 7

There’s a new King Charles in town.

8+ goal hauls, one-point wins and some incredible goal of the year contenders – this weekend was no stranger to some top-tier footy moments.

So, here’s the top five moments of AFL Round 7, ranked.

5. King Charles and his 9.

Charles III might be getting coronated this Saturday, but in Perth on the weekend, Charlie Curnow earned his own crown.

In a blowout against the Eagles, the reigning Coleman medallist slotted nine massive goals, outscoring the entire opposition side, a career best.

Despite Tom Hawkins kicking eight goals on Sunday, Charlie’s effort gets the chocolates.

4. GWS steal a one-point win.

Despite being the youngest state rivalry, the traditional Sydney v GWS ‘Battle of the Bridges’ always serves some exciting moments.

In the final quarter of the battle on Saturday, it looked all but secured for a Sydney win.

But the Giants clawed back a 25-point margin to win by a single point, with Toby Greene kicking his fourth goal and securing the Brett Kirk Medal.

3. Walters from the boundary.

It hasn’t been the greatest season for Fremantle, but this man stands up week after week.

Despite it looking dire for the Dockers in the third term, Michael Walters, in classic fashion, kicked a magnificent dribbling goal from the boundary.

Despite the heroics, it unfortunately wasn’t even the best goal of the match.

2. Collingwood does it again.

Last year, Collingwood set up a trend of trailing at three quarter time but coming back for clutch wins again and again.

Yesterday, they notched up their third comeback win of the year.

Adelaide led by 15 points at three quarter time, but an almighty comeback culminating in a Steele Sidebottom behind in the final minute got Collingwood their one-point win.

1. Ashcroft locks in the GOTY.

In his seventh game, the 18-year-old Will Ashcroft might have just locked in the goal of the year.

In pure Daniel Wells style, the number 2 draft pick launched into the air on the boundary, throwing the ball on his boot and watched it sail through the posts.

I can’t stop watching this.
