One of the Biggest Stars on Instagram Is a Hip AI Robot Called Lil Miquela

Welcome to 2018 where A.I. is cooler than you and nothing on social media is real.

When we decide what we're gonna post on the 'gram, it's not usually your three soggy Weet-Bix for breakfast or a selfie of you on your bus ride home. We choose the best and most aesthetic moments of our life because we don't want to look like squares. But, despite being carefully curated, our pics still happened in reality.

So, what happens when you mix a computer-generated human with the living world?

You get Lil Miquela.

She's basically the coolest Sim you've ever created who's been transported into the real world, but whether she has a life outside Instagram is completely unknown.

Created by mysterious Los Angeles-based A.I. and marketing firm, Brud, Lil Miquela also recently had a self-actualised awakening to make the whole situation even more confusing.

It's still unclear what Lil Miquela's true purpose is other than having her aesthetic game riding high, but a social media expert, Ryan Shelley, told the ABC that he believes it's a new type of digital marketing.

"This is sort of their brochure... their demonstration to the market," he said.

"I think this is just that next step of putting a human face on the robots and automated machines that we are already chatting to."

So, next time you hit up the 'gram, remember that not everything you see is really real.
