Apparently, 86 Per Cent of You Would Take a Job As a Social Media Influencer

It appears social media influencers have been very successful in influencing.

Eighty-six out of every 100 young Australians wouldn't mind putting their hand for a social media influencer role, according to new research.

The research, commissioned by electronics company, OPPO, shows that 52 per cent of Australians aged between 18 and 24 have admitted they've made a "purchasing or travel decision" based on what they've seen from influencers. On top of that, 86 per cent admit that they'd love to take on a full-time job as a social media influencer.

Hold up. Remind me what that is, technically speaking.

A social media influencer is defined by Dictionary.com as someone who "has the power to influence many people, as through social media or traditional media."

But, to make it easier to understand, think of Kim Kardashian West and Kylie Jenner as some of the most successful influencers to grace Instagram.

Unfortunately, the research also showed the downside to social media influencing. With the 'liking' and 'following' systems on sites like Instagram and, to a lesser extent, Facebook, young Australians are feeling the pressure to curate the best images of their lives for the best response.

That's potentially why 45 per cent of young'uns explained they get anxious or feel anxiety when posting images to Instagram while 42 per cent have admitted to actively trying to increase their Instagram followers.

Surprisingly, only 37 per cent have confessed to using third-party apps to edit their images before uploading to social media.

By all means, go out there and live your best life but make sure you speak to someone if social media's really starting to affect your mental health.
