The Latest Nintendo Direct Was an Absolute Feast

We were absolutely spoilt with new trailers, game announcements, and more.

This morning’s Nintendo Direct has excited fans around the world with an absolute tonne of announcements of what’s coming up this year.

If you're unsure on what Nintendo Direct is, it's an online presentation showcasing the latest Nintendo news, featuring announcements, trailers and more.

I personally wasn’t sure what to expect this morning (apart from craving another Zelda update), but this Nintendo Direct was huge.

I am still processing everything.

We got a better look at one of the most highly anticipated games of the year, as well as being spoilt with new game announcements and first—looks, long-awaited release dates, a classic Nintendo title being dropped out of nowhere, and more.

We’ve put together just a few of our fave announcements, so let’s a-go!

New Trailer for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (and more).

We’re only a few months away from one of the biggest game releases this year, and we now have a new trailer.

This trailer kicks things up a notch as we get a longer look at a beautiful and dark Hyrule and everything sinister that lurks around it.

I got some goosebumps hearing some familiar voices in the trailer… Go watch it now.

The Nintendo Direct also announced the Collector’s Edition of the game which absolutely slaps.

This edition includes a Collector’s Edition box, a steelbook case, an ICONART steel poster, a pin set, artbook and of course – the game. This will set you back around $189.95 so if you are keen to splash out – don’t wait too long in case it sells out.

A new Amiibo for the game was also announced of Link, retailing for around $21.95.

Metroid Prime Remastered Drops.

We love a cheeky surprise game release.

The original Metroid Prime game has been remastered and is out now on the Nintendo eShop, and it will be getting a physical release at the end of this month.

New Character and Track Announced for Wave 4 of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe’s Booster Course Pass.

The Booster Course Pass for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has been an absolute delight for those craving extra tracks to race (and fall off) on.

For Wave 4, Nintendo announced a new track called ‘Yoshi’s Island’, and will add Birdo to the character roster.

It’s a yes from me.

I'm still dreaming about Mario Kart IRL at Super Nintendo World...

Game Boy and Game Boy Advance Games Come to Switch Online.

If you’re in the mood for something old-school, Nintendo announced the addition of Game Boy and Game Boy Advance games to their Nintendo Switch Online membership.

Game Boy games such as Tetris, Kirby’s Dream Land and Super Mario Land 2 – 6 Golden Coins will be available through the Switch Online membership, and an assortment of Game Boy Advance games  will be part of the Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack.

Some of our other fave announcements included:

  • New trailer for Pikmin 4, announced to release 21 July.
  • Splatoon 3 has a new expansion pass on the way, with Wave 1 dropping in Autumn.
  • New trailer for Kirby’s Return to Dreamland Deluxe, out 24 February.

There was an incredible bunch of announcements packed into this 40-minute Nintendo Direct showcase that we haven’t even mentioned – we’d love to know which announcement you’re looking forward to most!
