PAX Aus is Happening in Melbs This Week – Here’s What You Can Expect

Chat with game devs, interact with your fave gaming brands, and more!

PAX Aus - the biggest gaming festival in Australia - is hitting Melbourne from 6-8 October at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre.

The festival rounds off the final days of Melbourne International Games Week.

Over three days, gamers around the country come together to celebrate their love of video games, tabletop games, tech, and more.

There’s still limited badges available for Friday and Sunday, so if you’re still not sure whether to go, we’ve compiled our fave reasons why you should attend!

There’s a bunch of games to play (obv).

There’s no gaming festival without games.

Nintendo will be on the PAX expo floor headlined by Super Mario Bros. Wonder, which you can get your hands on before it releases 20 October.

SEGA will also have a booth showcasing Sonic Superstars, and Bandai Namco will be in attendance in the Console Freeplay area with a demo of Tekken 8 – playable for the first time in Australia.

There will also be a VR Freeplay mode presented by Aussie Broadband with a variety of games to get immersed into.

This doesn’t even include all the amazing tabletop games and indie video games that are being showcased that you’ll get the opportunity to play too!

There’s community meetups perfect for finding your people.

If you’re a budding video game composer or developer, fan of a particular franchise, or are involved in the gaming community, there’s a few meet-ups happening you can participate in.

It’s a great way to meet like-minded people who share the same interests.

Social battery running out? There’s also some low-key spaces like the PAX Handheld Lounge and Social Games if you want to join in on the fun with minimal IRL interaction.

It’s cosplaying time.

Time to get out your fave outfits and proudly show your love for your favourite pop culture franchises.

Cosplay (costume-play) is dressing proudly as a character you love. Whether you buy a costume or craft it yourself, this is the perfect place to show off your fit.

PAX Aus hosts the Aussie leg of the Cosplay Central Crown Championships of Cosplay, where you’ll see phenomenal cosplays that will make your jaw drop.

It’s a great place to get some career advice.

The Expo Hall will be filled with a bunch of developers, publishers, and more from throughout the gaming industry, so this is the perfect chance to have a chat with the experts.

There’s also a bunch of panels being led over the weekend by those working in various parts of the gaming industry, covering everything from careers and voice-acting, to cosplay and content creation.

Get yourself out there and network!
