“Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl” Is the Video Game Nostalgia Hit ‘90s Babies Need

Super Smash Bros. meets Nickelodeon.

Nobody asked for a Super Smash Bros. style game from Nickelodeon but with the surprise first trailer for Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl dropping this week, this is absolutely the nostalgia hit that anyone who grew up watching early 2000s Nick cartoons needs.

The game is due to drop later this year on all major consoles (PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch) and will finally allow you to beat the snot out of Helga from Hey Arnold! (c’mon, tell me you wouldn’t do the same?).

Here’s what we know so far.

How does Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl work?

If you’ve ever played Super Smash Bros. then you’ll be familiar with how All-Star Brawl will work. It’s a platform fighter game featuring your favourite characters from popular Nickelodeon shows like SpongeBob SquarePants, Rugrats and The Wild Thornberries going head-to-head throwing fists to see who comes out on top.

The game features 20 levels/battlefields that are all based on Nickelodeon shows like Jellyfish Fields or the Flying Dutchman’s Ship from SpongeBob, the Technodrome from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and the Junkyard in Aahh!! Real Monsters.

Seriously, this is a walk down memory lane that my heart really can’t handle.

Which characters can I play in Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl?

The trailer revealed 14 playable characters, but more are expected to be revealed the closer we get to its release.

Here’s the confirmed character list so far:

  • Helga (Hey Arnold!)
  • Danny Phantom (Danny Phantom)
  • Sandy Cheeks (SpongeBob Squarepants)
  • Zim (Invader Zim)
  • Nigel Thornberry (The Wild Thornberrys)
  • Michelangelo (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles)
  • Leonardo (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles)
  • SpongeBob Squarepants (SpongeBob Squarepants)
  • Patrick Star (SpongeBob Squarepants)
  • Reptar (Rugrats)
  • Lincoln Loud (The Loud House)
  • Lucy Loud (The Loud House)
  • Oblina (Aahh!! Real Monsters)
  • Powdered Toast Man (Ren & Stimpy)

When does the game come out?

Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl doesn’t have an exact release date as of yet. All we know is that the beat-em-up game will launch sometime in the spring of 2021 (that’s fall/autumn for you northern hemisphere folk).

Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl will be available to play on Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch and PC.
