Netflix Has Given the Greenlight to a “Squid Game” Reality TV Series: Would You Sign Up?

All that time you spent playing games as a kid could win you big bucks.

Okay, there’s been a lot of Squid Game content recently with the little teaser Netflix dropped earlier this week detailing more (not really though?) about season two.

Well, knowing that probably wouldn’t be enough to satisfy the cravings of a diehard fan base, we’ve now got a 10-episode reality TV competition called Squid Game: The Challenge.

Do we need it? Probably not. Are we going to tune in? Definitely.

According to Variety, the announcement came from Netflix’s Head of Global TV, Bela Bajaria, at the Banff World Media Festival on Tuesday and honestly, it’s wild. Listen up.

Apparently, it’s going to be the biggest reality competition series ever with the largest cast (456 players, duh) and the largest lump sum cash prize ($4.56 million, what) in reality TV history.

Much like the TV show, contestants will go through a series of games all intended to test their strategies, alliances and characters—some will be taken straight from the show and there'll be some new additions too.

Obviously unlike the game though, players will simply be eliminated if they lose and not brutally murdered.

Netflix’s Vice President of Unscripted and Documentary Series, Brandon Riegg, described the series as a “social experiment”.

“Fans of the drama series are in for a fascinating and unpredictable journey as our 456 real-world contestants navigate the biggest competition series ever, full of tension and twists, with the biggest ever cash prize at the end,” he said.

Reckon you’d quite like to stick it to the Front Man? Then you can legit sign up for it.

Casting is currently under way and is open to anyone from around the world, so long as you can speak English because that’s the language the instructions for each game will be given in.
