Ncuti Gatwa of ‘Sex Education’ Has Been Cast as the Next Doctor Who

Wibbly wobbly timey wimey stuff.
The Tardis doors have finally swung open to a new Doctor and he’s reincarnated as none other than the electrifying Ncuti Gatwa.

You’d know him from the hit Netflix series, Sex Education, appearing as Otis’ hilarious friend Eric.
He’s got several memes to his name, including the iconic “detty pig” scene that we still quote to this day.
Ncuti Gatwa himself is 29 years old, hailing from Scotland and born in Rwanda. He’ll be the first Black actor to play the lead role, following Jodie Whittaker as the first female Doctor.

If you’re unfamiliar with the legendary British TV show, it follows an eccentric and quirky Time Lord’s adventures through time and space. The Doctor ‘regenerates’ every now and then, because how else could one actor last thirteen seasons since 2005 (and even longer, if you count the first run from 1963-1989)?

Ncuti teased the news on his Instagram page with a cryptic mix of emojis representing the Tardis and its signature blue.
Soon after, the news was confirmed via BBC’s statement. Ncuti announced he was “a mix of deeply honoured, beyond excited and of course a little bit scared.”
“This role and show means so much to so many around the world, including myself, and each one of my incredibly talented predecessors has handled that unique responsibility and privilege with the utmost care. I will endeavour my utmost to do the same,” he said.

The BBC has indicated we’ll be seeing Ncuti as the 14th incarnation of the Doctor some time next year, so hold onto your sonic screwdrivers.
