“Matilda the Musical” is Coming to Netflix with Emma Thompson as Miss Trunchbull

The villain from our childhoods is returning.
We all embarrassingly tried to make a pencil levitate when we were eight, don’t even lie.
It was the undying influence of “Matilda”, Roald Dahl’s masterpiece best known from its 1996 film adaptation of the same name.

Full of telekinesis, questionable families and child-hating adults, the classic is coming to Netflix this December as a musical.
The stage musical first premiered on the West End in London in 2011 and has received 12 Olivier Awards. And we have an Aussie at the helm, with Tim Minchin producing the musical numbers!
In our first peek at the Netflix film, the soundtrack can be heard as we’re introduced to Alisha Weir as Matilda, Lashana Lynch as our fave, Miss Honey, and, that’s right—Emma Thompson in heavy prosthetics as Miss Trunchbull.
And yes, we get that child-throwing scene again.

The internet is exploding with nostalgia after the trailer was released.
They released the first trailer for the Matilda musical movie and it looks stunning. It’s fully embracing how artistically unique the show is and isn’t trying to shy away from the fact it’s a musical. pic.twitter.com/NfLIT2nTLa

The musical will debut 2 December in UK theatres with the specific Netflix premiere date to be announced.
Keep practising those telekinetic powers.
