Music Festivals Probably Won’t Happen Until There’s a Coronavirus Vaccine

You won’t need to buy your next festival outfit any time soon.

If you've been spending your days at home dreaming about which music festival you're going to head along to next, we're sorry to disappoint, but it looks you won't be purchasing tickets any time soon.

Sadly, Aussies probably won't be able to attend music festivals or nightclubs for the foreseeable future. In fact, it's likely nightclubs and music festivals will not reopen until a coronavirus vaccine has been created, or Australia has the pandemic completely under control.

As reported by the ABC earlier this week, Australia's Chief Medical Officer Dr Brendan Murphy delivered some news that's not so great for frequent concert-goers.

"It's hard for me to envisage reopening of nightclubs and big music festivals in the foreesable future," Mr Murphy said.

"Unless you're absolutely, completely confident about your borders, your testing, your surveillance, you can't relax a measure of distancing."

Cancelling music festivals has played an important part in stopping the transmission of COVID-19. With some states beginning to relax their coronavirus restrictions, people were hopeful that life would be back to normal sooner rather than later.

But despite Australia doing relatively well amid the coronavirus pandemic, it appears mass gatherings are still out of the question until a vaccine is made. At the moment, experts are thinking a vaccine is likely to become available by mid-2021.

Festivals including Groovin The Moo, Download Festival, Bluesfest and Dark Mofo have already been cancelled. At this stage, Splendour in the Grass has been rescheduled until October, so we'll have to wait to find out whether it'll go ahead as planned.

Well, it looks like we'll be attending virtual gigs for a while longer.
