Restrictions on Gatherings In NSW Will Be Eased From This Weekend

Households will be able to welcome up to 20 guests.

If you're living in New South Wales, you're probably itching to get some social interaction right about now.

Well, we've got some good news for you.

From Saturday, NSW coronavirus restrictions will be eased, with households being able to welcome up to 20 guests in addition to anyone who already lives in the house.

Outdoor gatherings of up to 20 people will also be permitted. Additionally, food courts will reopen. However, people will need to abide by the four-square-metre rule.

People will also be able to take part in indoor fitness classes, while up to 100 people will be allowed in gyms. Except, social distancing will need to be upheld.

Since last month, people in the state have only been allowed to host up to five visitors in their house, and groups of up to 10 people could gather outside.

NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian made the announcement this morning to reporters.

"Can I just say that whilst we're easing restrictions on the number of people that can come into your home, the number of people that can gather outdoors, and also people being able to attend food courts... please do not let your guard down," Ms Berejiklian said.

The decision to ease restrictions comes after community transmission of coronavirus has flatlined over the past fortnight in NSW. All new COVID-19 cases have been identified within hotel quarantine.

Other states and territories across Australia have also been easing coronavirus restrictions. Next weekend, people in the ACT will be able to welcome up to 50 guests in their house.

Ms Berejiklian has also flagged that further restrictions in NSW will be eased in the coming days.
