“Mulan” Is Coming to Disney+, But You’ll Need to Pay to Watch It

It'll land on the platform in September.
The release dates for a number of highly-anticipated films have been postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Earlier this month, it was announced that A Quiet Place Part II, Top Gun: Maverick, Tenet and the Mulan live-action remake had all been pushed back. In fact, Mulan, which was set to hit theatres on 21 August, was taken off Disney's theatrical release calendar entirely.
At the time, a new release date for the flick wasn't confirmed.
However, Disney has now revealed during a company earnings call that they'll premiere the movie on Disney+ instead.
It will arrive on the streaming service next month on Friday 4 September.
"We are announcing today that, in most Disney+ markets—including the U.S., Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and a number of countries in Western Europe—we will be offering Disney+ subscribers the epic adventure Mulan on Disney+ on a Premier Access basis beginning September 4," Disney CEO Bob Chapek said.
It's undoubtedly exciting for fans, but there's just one catch: users who pay for a monthly or annual subscription to Disney+ will still need to purchase Mulan for an extra $US29.99.
As reported by IGN, Mr Chapek said the price point will vary slightly in countries outside the United States.
At this stage, we're not entirely sure what it will cost to watch the flick in Australia. While there's been no official confirmation, $US29.99 converts to around $AUD42.
It's safe to say not everyone is happy about having to fork out the extra cash to watch the movie when they're already paying monthly or annual subscription fees.
They should cut that price in half and go from there. I’d pay 12-15 for Mulan (maybe) but definitely not 30 on my home screen.

Internationally, the film will open in cinemas in regions that don't yet have Disney+.
The streaming service, which launched in November 2019, has already amassed more than 60 million customers. That means if 10 per cent of Disney+ customers rent Mulan, Disney will make around $US180 million.
Mulan is directed by New Zealander Niki Caro and was originally scheduled for release in late March.
If you were planning to sing your heart out to "Reflection", we're sorry to say the songs from the original flick aren't included in the live-action remake. The lovable Mushu, voiced by Eddie Murphy, isn't part of the remake either.
Although, it still looks pretty action-packed.
Unpopular Opinion: I’m excited for the new Mulan movie, as much as I would miss mushu and the songs I’m really interested to see what they will do with it , especially cause it’s the first remake rated PG-13. Idk but I can’t wait to watch it!

Update 03/09: Disney+ customers who fork out $US29.99 for the flick starting Friday 4 September will get the first look at the live-action remake, but in three months, all subscribers to the streaming service will get access to the film for no extra charge. As of 4 December 2020, it'll be available to all Disney+ subscribers at no additional cost.
