Millennials Are Pretty Worried About Their Future Job Prospects (But They've Got A Plan)

A new survey has found young Australians aren't really feeling the future (and not just because robots are coming to take our jobs).

More than 5000 18-29 year-olds were asked their thoughts on “Careers and Employment” for the Future Leaders Index 2015.

The findings revealed 67 per cent are concerned about getting a career-related job in the current economic environment. Only 29 per cent even know (or are pretty sure) of the career path they want to take.

Most females between the age of 18 and 20 are particularly worried about their career prospects (76 per cent, in fact).

Meanwhile, 60 per cent of males aged between 27 and 29 are thinking about staying at uni or conducting further study because their current job prospects don’t look too promising.

The Index does suggest, however, that millennials are taking the initiative to fight the future. (Heaven knows Gen Y could use a happy ending for their 2015.)

Turns out young Australians are “becoming far more resourceful” thanks to the vocational training they’re undertaking. Apparently 43 per cent of current tertiary educated students have already completed career-related work placements. Also, 51 per cent still hold aspirations to one day “be the boss”.

Hear that, world? The millennials are comin’.
