Microsoft Tries To Guess Your Emotions, But Still Can't Feel Love

Tired of technology not truly understanding you? Microsoft knows how you feel. No, literally.

Microsoft has just made public a new beta service as part of Project Oxford (which, terrifyingly, exists to make machines more intelligent) that evaluates your emotions based on your facial expression.

It’s not so different to the technology that allows Facebook to recognise your face for tagging purposes, or Microsoft’s ‘age guessing’ tool.

The difference here is that Microsoft is digging deeper and trying to quantify the seemingly unquantifiable.

To test it out, all you need to do is upload a photo of yourself – or anyone really – and let Microsoft’s Emotion API evaluate your anger, contempt, disgust, fear, happiness, neutral, sadness and surprise.

As you would expect in its beta stage, the thing isn’t super accurate. (I uploaded a picture of myself smiling from my wedding and it said my dominant emotion was disgust.)

Also, this conclusion is unforgivable. Neutral?? Drake has SO MANY feelings ALL OF THE TIME.
