Goodnight, Dank Prince: It Looks Like Microsoft Paint Is Being Retired

Your memes are about to get a whole lot less dank.
Microsoft has made the stunning decision to effectively can Microsoft Paint, the design tool many of us grew up with, and to this day use to add absurd speech bubbles to pictures of President Donald Trump.
It’s going out with a whimper, too.
The Guardian noticed Microsoft Paint on a list of “features that are removed or deprecated” in the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update. Though not on the “removed” list, Paint is listed as “deprecated”, meaning, “might be removed from future releases”.
The writing was scribbled clumsily on the wall earlier this year when Microsoft released the superior 3D Paint. With the original Paint unlikely to receive further updates, it’ll eventually become incompatible with future Microsoft devices.
Nonetheless, many are sad to potentially see the 32-year-old program head to that great meme factory in the sky.
Of all the things that might have survived the Trump Era, I figured Microsoft Paint would have definitely been one.

Update: A Microsoft spokesperson has told Motherboard that MS Paint "is not going away". Instead, it will eventually be available for free download on the Windows Store, complete with "new updates". Again, for now.
