Melbourne Named World's Most Liveable City, Above Adelaide, Perth And Yes, Sydney

Melbourne was just handed a massive advantage in its years-long feud with Sydney, being named the World’s Most Liveable City by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU).

We’re going to assume Melbourne notched the victory this year for that confirmed Pikachu nest spotted in Brunswick East.

It certainly couldn’t have helped that Finding Dory opened with the revelation that Nemo and fam left Sydney at the end of Finding Nemo (probably on account of housing prices; yes, even underwater).

2016 marks Melbourne’s sixth consecutive year at the top of the global chart, which scores every city in the world based on their healthcare, education, stability, culture, environment and infrastructure. The EIU creates the index to let global businesses know how much extra employees should be paid, depending on their city's ranking.

As ABC News reports, Melbourne scored 97.5 out of a possible 100. Vienna, Vancouver and Toronto followed close by, in second, third and fourth place, respectively.

The next Australian city on the list was Adelaide, tied for fifth with Calgary. (Both shared 96.6 points.)

Right behind was Perth, in seventh place, on 95.9 points. Auckland, Helsinki and Hamburg closed out the Top 10.

Sydney, sadly, dropped out of the Top 10, despite placing seventh in 2015. Did the EIU even see that ‘Kissing Kanyes’ mural in Chippendale?!

Sydney instead came in at #11, on account of “a heightened perceived threat of terrorism”.

Damascus, capital of Syria, was ranked the world’s least liveable city, sitting beneath Libya’s Tripoli and Nigeria’s Lagos.

Anyway, congrats to Melbourne, and a tip of the hat to Adelaide, who had to contend with comments from Sam Neill this week, saying it’s a “place you don’t go to for a good time”. (Neill walked back the comments… but we kinda want to see this feud play out a little longer.)
