Meet Optus’ New Youth Ambassador: Surfing Sensation Molly Picklum

The 20-year-old is the current #1 ranked female in the World Surf League.
Fresh from shredding waves on the World Surfing circuit, Molly Picklum is back home in Australia with some big news.
She’s been announced as Optus’ new Youth Ambassador.
The 20-year-old from New South Wales’ central coast has exploded onto the surf scene over the past few years, and 2023 looks to be her year.
In the four events on the Women’s Championship Tour this year, Molly’s made the top five every time, winning the Hurley Pro Sunset Beach in Oahu.
She’s the third Red Bull athlete to join the Optus fold, joining Olympic snowboarder Scotty James and F1 icon Daniel Ricciardo.
It’s been a hard road to where Molly is right now, but she’s pumped for what the year ahead holds.
“I have wanted to be a pro surfer for a long time, but I knew that wasn’t going to be an easy feat,” she said.
“Achieving my goals and dreams requires constant commitment, ambition and a ‘yes’ attitude day-in-and-day-out. I am excited to partner with Optus to help inspire the same mindset in young people across the country.”
In terms of inspiration, Molly’s had some big ones. She’s received mentorship from surfing royalty, including Layne Beachley and Mick Fanning.
But for her, a massive inspiration is Aussie tennis legend, Ash Barty – who’s also a big fan of Molly.
“Molly’s passion and optimism make her a great fit for Optus, and I’m sure Australians will love watching her flourish as she builds her career,” Ash said.
Fresh off a second place finish at the Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach in Victoria, Molly’s set to drop in on Western Australia to carve waves in the iconic Margaret River Pro.
