"Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit" Trailer Reveals How This Thing Actually Works

Oh, I get it now.

When Nintendo announced a whole swathe of new Super Mario releases to celebrate their pipe-jumping plumber’s 35th anniversary, we were entirely onboard… even if we didn’t fully understand what all the releases were, per se.

Super Mario 3D All Stars? Got it.

Super Mario Bros: Game & Watch? Ah, sure.

Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit?

Now, ahead of its 16 October release, a trailer for Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit describes what, exactly, this thing is. And, yeah, turns out: it’s awesome.

Basically, Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit allows you to transform your room into a Mario Kart course by setting up checkpoints around the home. You can then drive an actual, physical, Switch-controlled kart (with Mario or Luigi) through the checkpoints, and thanks to a camera on the kart, you can enjoy an augmented reality version of the game within your living space (visible on your handheld Switch).

This is, to put it mildly, sick.

Each Home Circuit comes with four gates, two arrow markers to enhance your tracks and a USB charging cable for the kart. Software comes as a free download from Nintendo eShop once you purchase the kit.

Get up to four friends together (each with their own Switches and copies of Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit) and race each other in Grand Prix or Custom Race modes.

We'll see you on the track.
