Man With Apparent Death Wish Allegedly Steals Frances McDormand’s Oscar, Gets Arrested

No need to put up a billboard. He’s already in custody.

A man who apparently has not seen Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri or paid attention to any of Frances McDormand’s fiery speeches this award season has been arrested under suspicion of stealing her Academy Award.

But there’s no need to fear any righteous retribution from an overalls-clad McDormand, as the suspect is now in custody, being held on $US20,000 bail. (Then again, she’s familiar with the process of infiltrating a police station.)

According to the ABC, 47-year-old Terry Bryant had published a video of himself to Facebook toting McDormand’s statuette.

It was reportedly stolen from the Governors Ball afterparty.

Officer Rosario Herrera said Bryant, who definitely had a ticket to the event (and has a strange history of attending awards ceremonies and posing with prizes), was arrested on suspicion of felony grand theft.

"After some brief time apart, Frances and her Oscar were happily reunited," McDormand's publicist Simon Halls later said.

"They celebrated the reunion with a double cheeseburger from In-N-Out Burger."

(Do you know where we can get some of that, Franny?)

McDormand had what many consider to be the moment of the Oscars yesterday, introducing the phrase “inclusion rider” to the lexicon and encouraging all the female nominees in attendance to rise to their feet.

Thankfully, she didn't have to cap it with a vengeance-fuelled rampage across Los Angeles.
