Kraft Mac and Cheese Ice Cream Exists and I’ve Officially Lost My Appetite

Yay or nay?

We’ve all heard of Vegemite ice cream. Now, get ready for its bestie: Kraft Mac and Cheese ice cream.

That’s right, someone out there has a thing for savoury flavoured desserts ‘cos they’ve mashed together the salty taste of mac and cheese with the sweet, creamy flavours of ice cream.

Someone pls hide the lactose intolerant peeps.

The innovative new flavour has been created by Brooklyn-based ice creamery Van Leeuwen and launches in the United States on 14 July 11am US EST.

Makes sense tbh, it’s hot as hell in the US right now—while we’re all freezing to death here in Aus—so some ice cream would likely go down a treat, no matter what the flavour.

It’s not just the flavour that’s on-brand either. Van Leeuwen have also paired the bright yellow dessert into a pint with the classic Kraft Mac and Cheese blue, giving us all the nostalgia of after school snacking and lazy dinners.

Despite the fact that it technically hasn’t even launched yet, some people have already had a go at a taste test. And to our surprise, they’ve given it the big ol’ thumbs up.

Eater.com writer Amy McCarthy got her hands on the neon, creamy dessert and described it as “actually delicious.”

“Upon taking the first bite, I was hooked. Half of the pint had disappeared by the time I looked up, and I have no regrets,” she wrote.

“The cheese powder combines with Van Leeuwen’s rich base, made with milk, cream, and sugar, to produce a buttery flavor that’s only slightly cheesy. It doesn’t exactly evoke a bowl of macaroni and cheese in terms of texture, thankfully, but the flavor is strikingly similar.

“It’s lightly funky, and more complex than the classic blue-box dinner. It’s one of those foods that’s so uniquely compelling that you’re going to be confused while eating it, but definitely won’t want to stop.”

The reaction online, however, has been very mixed.

Unfortunately for now, this delicacy is only available in the US but hopefully, with a bit of a nudge to Coles or Woolies, we could see it on Aussie shelves sometime soon.
