Your New Favourite Mum: Kiwi PM Jacinda Ardern Announces Pregnancy

She has maintained that she will be a PM and a mum.

While arguably taking out the coolest PM in the world (sorry, Trudeau) award, New Zealand Prime Minister, Jacinda Ardern, will now also take the title as one of the coolest mums in the world.

She announced on Twitter that she and her husband, the First Man, Clarke Gayford, are expecting their first bébé in June this year.

We thought 2017 was a big year! This year we’ll join the many parents who wear two hats. I’ll be PM & a mum while Clarke will be “first man of fishing” & stay at home dad. PM Ardern announced that she will take six weeks off in June leaving Deputy Prime Minister Winston Peters at the helm. She also explained that Clarke will take on stay-at-home parenting duties when she returns to her role as the country's leader.

In August last year, PM Ardern fielded questions about her future family plans, which caused controversy over whether a male PM would experience the same. While she was happy to answer questions, she reminded the reporters that it was "totally unacceptable" to ask women these sorts of things in the workplace.

 

2018 is already shaping up to be the Year of the Famous Babies.
