Kanye West Is Legally Changing His Name to Ye, ‘Cos Kanye

Kanye be doing Kanye stuff again.

In a story that I didn’t expect to read today, Kanye West is looking to legally change his name to Ye.

According to The Associated Press, the rapper filed a petition to change his name from Kanye Omari West to just Ye. That’s right, no middle name or last name, just Ye.

I gotta admit, I love his all-in approach to everything he does in life.

On the form, West cited “personal reasons” for wanting to change his name to Ye, but previously he has openly discussed the meaning of the name and how it ties in with his Christian faith.

In 2018, West released his eighth studio album also called Ye, and said in an interview at the time that the name is biblical.

“I believe ‘ye’ is the most commonly used word in the Bible, and in the Bible, it means, ‘you’,” West said.

Not to nitpick, but after a little research, the most used word in the Bible is ‘Lord’, but I’ll let West have this one.

“So, I’m you, I’m us, it’s us. It went from Kanye, which means the only one, to just Ye—just being a reflection of our good, our bad, our confused, everything. The album is more of a reflection of who we are.”

Does anyone understand what that means? No? Okay, same.

According to TMZ, the judge in charge is set to approve West’s request unless there are intentions to commit fraud with the name change.

Of course, this could all be a clever way to promote his new album Donda which in that case West might just be a marketing genius.

If only he was good at keeping to deadlines ‘cos we were promised Donda a long time ago.
