Johnny Depp Calls Barnaby Joyce An "Inbred Tomato" And Barnaby Joyce Calls Himself "Hannibal Lecter" Over Pistol And Boo Saga

The ‘Pistol and Boo’ saga stretches into its 12th – 12th! – month, with Johnny Depp and Deputy PM Barnaby Joyce continuing to trade barbs over the dog-smuggling scandal.

Depp, promoting Alice Through The Looking Glass, visited Jimmy Kimmel Live overnight, where he discussed the now-notorious “apology” video he made with wife Amber Heard.

After Kimmel suggested it was one of his greatest performances, Depp responded: “You know, I haven’t seen many of them, but I wouldn’t disagree.”

(This actually plays into a suggestion from our ATTLG review that the dog apology is the only thing he's done recently "for the love of acting.”)

Kimmel also asked how Depp really felt about the clip: “Did you watch it back afterwards, before releasing it?”

“No, because I didn’t want to kill myself,” Depp said.

When grilled about who wrote the script to his apology, Depp offered, “a genius”, before laying into the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Agriculture, Barnaby Joyce (who had threatened to euthanise Depp’s pups after learning they’d been brought to Queensland without the appropriate paperwork).

After calling him “Barnaby Jones”, Depp said, “he looks somehow, like, inbred with a tomato.”

“It’s not a criticism. I was a little worried. He might explode.”

Needless to say, Depp is not Australia’s friend right now.

At a press conference this morning, Joyce laughed off the criticism, saying he’s “turning into Johnny Depp’s Hannibal Lecter.”

"I'm inside his head, I'm pulling little strings and pulling little levers. Long after I've forgotten about Mr Depp, he's remembering me."
