Jay-Z Admits His Marriage to Beyoncé Wasn’t “Built on the 100 Per Cent Truth”

Earlier this month, Jay-Z finally released his answer to Beyonce’s Lemonade, with the confessional comeback album, 4:44.
Of course, it was a Tidal exclusive, so most of us had to take the internet’s word for it.
Now that 4:44 is available to stream elsewhere (except Spotify, because the rivalry is real), we can all finally hear producer No I.D.’s Nina Simone samples, cry over Jay’s Kanye disses, and relish Blue Ivy’s fire verses.

But Jay-Z isn’t done hurling memeable content into the web’s gaping maw.
With a series of video footnotes for his most politically and personally incendiary tracks, Jay has revealed even more about his relationship to wife Beyoncé (who he effectively admitted to cheating on in songs “Family Feud”, “Kill Jay-Z” and title track “4:44’”).
On “Footnotes for 4:44” (again, only on Tidal), he confesses, “this is my real life.”
“I just ran into this place and we built this big, beautiful mansion of a relationship that wasn’t totally built on the 100 per cent truth and it starts cracking,” he elaborated.
“Then we had to get to a point of ‘Okay, tear this down and let’s start from the beginning'. It’s the hardest thing I’ve ever done.”
Bey, who also featured on “Family Feud”, apparently got an early listen to “4:44”, as part of their healing process.
“We just got to a place where in order for this to work, this can’t be fake. Not one ounce. I’m not saying it wasn’t uncomfortable because obviously it was.”
The animated music video for Jay-Z’s “The Story of O.J.” is the only bit of content that doesn’t sit behind the Tidal paywall. You can watch it below.
(Mind the coarse language, obviously).
