Jason Alexander Reveals How The Seinfeld Cast Plotted His TV Fiance's Death Over Dinner

Remember when George’s fiancé Susan died on Seinfeld? (We’d say “spoiler alert” but this literally happened 19 years ago.)

Jason Alexander has finally revealed why the show decided to kill his character’s on-again off-again girlfriend… and it ain’t great!

Speaking on The Howard Stern Show (and re-quoted by HitFix), Alexander explained how the show’s stars, Jerry Seinfeld, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Michael Richards and himself, would have dinner after every episode with real-life George and Seinfeld’s co-creator Larry David, during which they’d complain about “everyone and everything.”

“I kept saying, ‘I’m going out of my mind, you guys, you’re killing me: I can’t understand how to play off of this girl [aka Susan actress Heidi Swedberg]. I’m sure that this stuff is not working — it can’t be!’ And they’re saying, ‘It works great, you don’t know what you’re talking about’.”

That is, until one episode saw Swedberg finally share some scenes with Seinfeld and Louis-Dreyfus.

Here’s how Alexander remembers it:

“Julia actually said, ‘I know, it’s just, don’t you wanna just kill her?’

“And Larry went, ‘kebang!'”

By that season’s finale, Susan died from licking the glue of too many cheap wedding envelopes.

This all seems very cruel, but then again, so was Seinfeld.
