Is "WandaVision" Great Or Weird? Critics Reckon It's Both

But that's not necessarily a bad thing!

Several lucky critics were recently treated to three early access episodes of Marvel’s new mysterious and funny sitcom‐style series that follows the events of Avengers: Endgame, WandaVision.

Luckily for us, however, critics shared their thoughts on Twitter, giving already excited fans even more reason to be excited.

WandaVision, based on characters from Marvel comics, follows the story of Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) and Vision (Paul Bettany) as the couple try to live an idyllic suburban life and hide their powers after the defeat of Thanos in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

As they enter new decades and encounter television tropes from the time, they begin to discover that things are not as they initially thought.

Directed by Matt Shakman and written by Jac Schaeffer, WandaVision is a cinematic blend of classic television and the MCU.

It’s set to premiere on Disney+ with its first two episodes on 15 January 2021. From there, new episodes will be released weekly until 5 March.

The show’s style—being like a classic sitcom—is very different from what we usually see from Marvel but it seems to be paying off.

Following the critics’ sneak peek, the consensus appears to be that the show is compelling but is leaving many itching with anticipation for Phase Four.

On top of that, some critics have pointed out that WandaVision is pretty weird (that's not a bad thing though).

"#WandaVision is (at least in the first 3 episodes I’ve seen) pretty great. A terrific blend of big strangeness and aching heart. Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany have never been better as these characters and I cannot wait to see where it goes from here," said Alex Biese on Twitter.

On the other hand, others have been left wanting more, saying that the series has a “slow burn” and is taking too long to reveal its secrets.

Some critics have also praised Olsen for her ability to play such an ever-changing role.

"#WandaVision was like ‘hey we’re going to change almost everything about you episode to episode’ and she was like ok mind if I absolutely nail this?’," said Ash Crossan on Twitter.

While critics' impressions are just one thing to go off, it’s looking like this series is definitely worth watching this month, even if you’re not usually a Marvel fan.
