How to Watch “Young Rock” in Australia

Everything you need to know about Dwayne Johnson’s comedy series.

Can you smell what The Rock is cooking? I can, and it’s the new comedy series based on Dwayne Johnson’s colourful life up ‘til now.

The man has pretty much done it all, from pro wrestling to starring in movies, so why not make a show drawing on his incredible experiences too?

With Young Rock soon to hit television screens across Australia, here’s how you can watch it on release.

How do I watch Young Rock?

Young Rock has an exclusive deal with Foxtel for the broadcast rights, so you’ll either need to have a Foxtel subscription or be subscribed to their streaming service, BINGE.

If you're catching it on Foxtel, Young Rock will land on FOX8 on Sunday, 2 May at 6:30pm AEST with each episode airing weekly.

Alternatively, you can watch it On Demand or watch it on BINGE on the same day.

What is Young Rock about?

Turns out Johnson has lived more in his 48 years on this planet than I will probably live in 10 lifetimes.

I'm assuming that's why they’re making a series based on his life and not mine.

In Young Rock, the year is 2032 and Johnson is running for President of the United States (a tongue-in-cheek nod to people actually wanting Johnson to run for President).

Each episode involves Johnson being interviewed on the campaign trail and reflecting on the paths that led him to where he is today.

Flashbacks will either be of 10-year-old Johnson living in Hawaii, high school Johnson living in Pennsylvania, or Johnson as a college student and football player for the University of Miami.

Along the way, we get to see what life was like for him growing up in a Samoan pro-wrestling family and how through some damn hard work, The Rock made his dreams become a reality.

Wait, why is he called 'The Rock'?

Not a wrestling fan? All g, I’ll help you out.

Before becoming the biggest movie star on the planet, Johnson was the biggest pro wrestler on the planet.

His in-ring name whilst working at WWE was The Rock—a nod to his father’s wrestling name, Rocky Johnson.

If you haven’t seen any of The Rock’s matches, do yourself a favour and check them out. He really was the most electrifying wrestler of all time.

Were any Aussies involved in the making of Young Rock?

For sure! Young Rock spent five months filming in Queensland with a local cast and crew.

Speaking with Foxtel, Johnson was very appreciative of everything Australia had to offer for the series.

"Everyone was so welcoming to our production. The local Australian cast and crew—including Sydney’s own Uli Latukefu who plays ‘college years Dwayne’ and Directors Daina Reid and Jeffrey Walker—were simply amazing, treating us all like family during these challenging times," he told Foxtel.

“It was truly an honour to work with such great local talent. Thank you again to all our Australian partners who helped to bring the story of my life to life. I hope you enjoy the show!"

Seriously, is Australia not the MVP for Hollywood right now?
