How to Watch "Parasite" in Australia

Take those bars off your eyes and enjoy!

Bong Joon-ho’s searing comic-thriller Parasite has made history by becoming the first film not in the English language to win the top prize at the Academy Awards.

Not only that, but Bong also picked up an additional three Oscars to go with the flick’s Best Picture trophy, including Best Director, Best Original Screenplay and Best International Feature.

We bet you’ve fallen in love with the cast and crew through their acceptance speeches, and have already requested your membership to the #BongHive. Now, all that’s left is to watch the movie.

That’s right, we know you’ve probably landed on this page because you haven’t actually seen Parasite yet, even though it came out last June. (That’s when we gave it five stars, btw, on our way to crowning it the Best Film of 2019.)

Look, we’re not here to judge. In fact, this is the benefit of the Academy Awards. By giving Best Picture to a deserving and-not-super-duper-widely-seen masterpiece, like Parasite, the Academy has given it a platform that’ll earn the flick some new adoring fans (same goes for Bong’s previous features, especially Memories of Murder and The Host).

So, it is our proud duty to help you on this quest to witness Parasite for yourself. And here’s the good news, Aussies: there are heaps of ways you can watch it tonight.

Alright already, stop making me feel guilty, how do I see it?!

Despite opening nearly eight months ago in Australia, the DVD/Blu-ray release was held until February 2020 (mostly because it premiered later in the U.S. in the hopes of getting the Academy’s attention, and I suppose we can’t blame them, because, y’know, it worked).

Regardless, even though the wait was long and painful, Parasite is now available via physical media. No, physical media is not dead yet!

Those wanting to buy it or rent it online can get it via iTunes, Google Play, YouTube or the Microsoft Store. Unfortunately, it’s not yet available on any subscription streaming services.

Update (07/04/20): Stop the presses! Parasite will be available to stream on Stan from Easter Saturday, 11 April. It's streaming debut was brought forward because of the COVID-19 enforced social isolation and the closing of cinemas that were still screening the film.
