Oscars 2023: “Everything Everywhere All at Once” Dominates Hollywood’s Night of Nights

No slaps 🤚 this year either.

It’s that time of year once again, where all the stars and celebrities descend on Hollywood for the peak of awards season: The Oscars.

Countless actors, actresses, directors, writers, producers and so much more have gathered in LA’s Dolby Theatre for the 95th Academy Awards, hosted by talk show host Jimmy Kimmel.

Of course, it started where all good awards ceremonies start: the red carpet.

Fashion continues to astound every year, but our props have to go to Florence Pugh and her ruffled gown, Jamie Lee Curtis and her sequined floor-length gown (which took a team of 16 to create) and Paul Mescal’s timeless yet modern white Gucci tuxedo.

As the awards ceremony got underway, there was some triumphant moments, with some of the first few awards going to some out and out favs.

In the supporting actor and actress categories, Everything Everywhere All at Once began it’s dominant night, with fan favourites Ke Huy Quan and Jamie Lee Curtis taking out their respective categories.

There was your standard awkward moments and mistimed jokes as well, a highlight (lowlight?) of which included Jimmy Kimmel asking Nobel Prixe Winner Malala Yousafzai her opinion on the Harry Styles/Chris Pine beef.

Yikes.

Other highlights included RRR’s win for Best Original Song in ‘Naatu Naatu’ and the subsequent acceptance speech.

We also saw John Travolta introduce the ‘in memoriam’ section, and our hearts broke as he held back tears for the loss of his former Grease co-star, Olivia Newton-John.

Throughout the night, it truly was Everything Everywhere All at Once that held Hollywood’s attention.

The multiversal absurdist comedy-drama took out the awards for Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress, Best Original Screenplay, and Best Film Editing, even before the ceremony got to the final four awards.

They’re why we’re all here – so without further ado, here’s your major winners:

Unsurprisingly, EEAAO continued its good night, with it’s dual directors Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert winning Best Director.

We then had a fairytale win in the Best Actor category, with Brendan Fraser taking out the coveted award in an emotional comeback for his gut-wrenching performance in The Whale, and delivered a tear-jerking acceptance speech.

Then, it was back to our regularly scheduled EEAAO programming, with Michelle Yeoh (deservedly) picking up the award for Best Actress.

Then, it was all down to the final award.

10 films were nominated for Best Picture, but only one had the ability to go the distance.

That’s right, unsurprisingly, Everything Everywhere All at Once won the final award, picking up the film’s seventh oscar for the night.

That wraps another Hollywood awards season and another historic Academy Awards Ceremony – see you next year!
