Golden Globes 2023: The Winners, Losers and Shocks

Does anyone else have “The White Lotus” theme stuck in their head now?
After last year’s major Golden Globes controversy, the awards show has returned in a big way and we’ve seen some major winners take the stage.
The stars of 2022’s best in TV and movies took to the red carpet earlier today, with some bringing the heat, like Jamie Lee Curtis rocking a cape, and Billy Porter absolutely nailing it with a bright pink tuxedo gown.

Meanwhile there were some odd fashion choices, including Al Reynold’s decision to go with a full tuxedo, but with shorts.

But, the awards were the thing on everyone’s minds, and it got underway in style.
The first award, Best Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture went to Ke Huy Quan for his role in Everything Everywhere All At Once, and he delivered an emotional speech.
Fans of The White Lotus are gonna be pumped today, after Jennifer Coolidge won for her performance.
Then the series went on to pick up another major prize, this one for Best Limited Series, Anthology Series or Motion Picture Made for TV.
*Jennifer Coolidge voice*: "oh my god!"
Other major winners include Austin Butler picking up the Best Actor in a Drama for his breakout role in Elvis, Australia’s sweetheart Cate Blanchett earning the Best Performance by an Actress in a Drama for Tár, and Zendaya adding to her now comically large awards cabinet with another trophy for her role in Euphoria.
But, all eyes were on the big awards – Best Motion Picture, in the ‘Drama’ and ‘Musical or Comedy’ categories.
Although it’s been described as a little darker than your average comedy, Martin McDonagh’s The Banshees of Inisherin won in the Musical or Comedy category, after it starred throughout the night, netting three major awards.
But the shock win has to probably go to Steven Spielberg’s The Fabelmans, which picked up Best Motion Picture – Drama against some tough competition like Avatar: The Way of Water, Top Gun: Maverick and Elvis.
But of course, it wouldn’t be a Hollywood awards ceremony without a sprinkling of controversy and drama.
After people boycotted the ceremony last year for its lack of diversity, host Jerrod Carmichael didn’t pull any punches.
"I am your host, Jerrod Carmichael," he said in his opening speech, "and I'll tell you why I'm here. I'm here because I'm black."
He also made comments about Tom Cruise’s decision to return his three Golden Globes, amid a host of other political jokes.
"Backstage I found these three Golden Globe awards that Tom Cruise returned," he joked.
The Golden Globes is often seen as the precursor to the Oscars, so there's a good chance today's winners will go onto take out the top prize.
