Netflix Have Begun Their Crackdown on Password Sharing

Time to awkwardly change them passwords.
Netflix’s massive crackdown on password sharing has begun in Australia today.
The streaming service announced a crackdown late last year, and after it was rolled out in the US, the new restrictions will now come into effect across the globe.
Netflix has announced that from today, accounts sharing a password across 103 countries including Australia will receive an email warning.

The email will let them know that Netflix accounts can be used in just one household.
If they are sharing their password, users will have the option to remove anyone from outside the household or pay an extra $8 a month to keep them on board.

Booted members will also have the option to transfer their profile to their own account, to keep their viewing history and recommendations.
It’s estimated that 100 million of the 232.5 million global customers of Netflix have shared their password outside of the home.
The move comes after Netflix announced their first drop in subscribers ever at the start of 2022.
Netflix reacted to the fall in subscribers by announcing a host of new money-savers, including an ad-supported option.
It’s unclear how well this move will work, but there’s sure to be some confusion over the next few weeks.
All we know is that this is probably the poorest-aging tweet of all time.
