How to Plan Your Perfect University Open Day

Because we all love free Open Day goodie bags!
This post is presented in partnership with the Queensland University of Technology.
So, you're trying to work out what to study at university, or perhaps if you even want to go at all. Maybe you've got your heart set on a particular course and just need to decide where's best to take it on?
While there are a lot of different avenues for help on this (think: careers counsellors, career expos or those endless brochures you've been dished out), there's only one that will give you the real vibes you need.
Open Day.

Yep, you've gotta get on campus to get a real feel for it and find out not only if the course is right for you, but also the uni! And most unis are back on campus again, like the Queensland University of Technology (QUT), so there's even more on offer!
We promise you'll be itching to go, so here's the rundown on Open Day and how you can get the absolute most out of it.
Tell me again what it is and why I should go?
It's pretty much the university showcasing their campus and everything they have to offer you if you choose to study there. They open up to high school and mature-aged students so you can take a tour and ask all the questions you've been dying to know the answer to.
You can come along for 30 minutes or the whole day and you'll find out how to get around uni, suss out all the amenities, decide whether you like academic staff and, most importantly, figure out if they're offering exactly what you want to study.
Plus, you might even get a headstart on meeting new friends with heaps of other like-minded people there too or volunteering in the academic area you're interested in.

When are they?
Most Open Days are in the middle of the year so you've got enough time to weigh up all your options. QUT is hosting their Open Day on 31 July from 9am to 3pm at their Gardens Point campus in the city, with tours also available of selected Kelvin Grove facilities.
So, don't worry, you've still got time to sort out your Open Day schedule.

Speaking of schedules, how do I make sure I get the most out of my Open Day?
Did we mention that, on top of info seshes and tours, Open Days also feature food stalls and heaps of fun activities?
With so much on offer, it can be hard, and even overwhelming, trying to plan ahead. But QUT has the perfect tool for that—an online planner (cue our gratitude).
With this, you'll be able to schedule tours and seminars at QUT and you'll know exactly where you have to be, when. You can use filters to display only the events that interest you and build yourself a personalised schedule.
As if that wasn't already making our lives so much easier, you can also go into the draw to win a MacBook Pro when you start planning your day. All round greatness.

Discover the opportunities that will help shape your future with QUT’s Open Day on Sunday 31 July.
