How to Get Bonus VC in "NBA 2K20"

Yes, you can start loading up right now.

Newly-minted Laker (and facial-groomer extraordinaire) Anthony Davis is your NBA 2K20 cover star, and his mighty brow looms over one of the most transformative iterations of the game ever.

That’s because 2019’s wild free agency free-for-all saw dozens of megastars trade teams. These moves have remade the league in a manner we haven’t witnessed since the start of the Golden State Warriors dynasty.

But which team will take out the 2019 – 2020 championship trophy (or the "Larry O’B" as Kawhi Leonard christened it)? A repeating Toronto Raptors? LeBron’s stacked Lakers? Steph’s vengeful, roster-depleted Warriors? The super-sized Brooklyn Nets? Or, hell, the ascendant Pelicans?

Well, you’ll be able to test out the new configurations of each team—including #1 draft pick and generational talent Zion Williamson—when NBA 2K20 drops on 6 September. (It’s also gonna be the first in the franchise to include WNBA players too!)

However, maybe you’ll want to make your own team of superstars, and combine a non-injured Kevin Durant with Anthony Davis, Kawhi Leonard, Damian Lillard and, just for the hell of it, Shaq.

The only way to do that is through NBA 2K’s MyTEAM mode, and you’ll need plenty of Virtual Currency (VC) to buy packs and/or players to load up your team accordingly.

Though you can earn VC by playing the game, there are daily challenges in MyTEAM mode that also allow you to collect more. But if that’s not enough, or you want to get started early, there are a few sneaky ways you can earn additional VC. Here’s how…

1. Preorder the Standard Edition.

If you’re planning on snapping up a copy of 2K19 in September, you may as well pre-order now and get the game a day earlier than everyone else (you can collect your preorder on 5 September). When you preorder the standard edition with Davis on the cover, you’ll get 5,000 VC, 5,000 MyTEAM Points, five MyCAREER Skill Boosts, 10 weekly MyTEAM League packs, five weekly Heat Check packs and a MyPLAYER Clothing Capsule. 2. Preorder the Digital Deluxe Edition.

Ooh, now the cover is Lakers Gold, and you can score 35,000 VC, 10,000 MyTEAM Points, 10 MyCAREER Skill Boosts, 10 weekly MyTEAM League packs, five weekly Heat Check packs, a MyPLAYER Clothing Capsule and 1 Sapphire MyTEAM Cover Athlete Card (guaranteeing you Anthony Davis). 3. Preorder the Legend Edition.

4. Play the My NBA 2K20 app every day.

Okay, so, as of this writing, the My NBA 2K20 app is not yet available. However, if it’s anything like the 2K17, 2K18 and 2K19 apps before it, My NBA 2K20 will likely feature additional opportunities to accumulate VC through daily rewards and one-on-one games. It's also an easy way to earn currency when you’re not near your console. We'll keep you posted on its release!

NB: We're sorry to say that if 2K20 follows in the footsteps of previous instalments, your current collection of VC on NBA 2K19 (or any earlier version of the game) won’t transfer to 2K20. Also, if you end up earning VC in 2K20 on one console, you likely won’t be able to transfer them to any other different console version of the same game. And finally, don’t expect your hard work on the 2K19 app to count for 2K20 either. You'll be starting from scratch. But hey, you don’t care. You’re here for the love of the game!
