Here’s How to "Eurostep" in "NBA 2K20" (and Play Like Giannis)

(Clearing voice, resuming Australian accent): Well, what if we were to tell you that we could help you pull off their infamous Eurostep?

No, we don’t mean in real life. But we can definitely guide you in NBA 2K20!

(This game was previewed on the PS4, so all screenshots below correspond to the PlayStation experience. Nonetheless, we'll outline the correct buttons for Xbox One as well.)

First, What Even is a Eurostep?

Let this absolutely ancient video from Argentine legend Manu Ginóbili explain.

As Manu puts it, it's a smart option when you're being double-teamed in a traditional pick and roll scenario. In the video above, as he makes a run for it on his left foot away from the defender, he has no choice but to dive back onto his right to cut through the two opponents.

So, in its most simplistic description, the Eurostep is when you go one direction and suddenly break the other.

Why’s It Called a Eurostep?

The move originated in European basketball, and was first witnessed in the NBA in the late 1980s, courtesy of Lithuanian shooting guard Šarūnas Marčiulionis.

As European imports to the NBA increased—like Manu through to the Greek Freak, Giannis Antetokounmpo—the Eurostep gained in prominence. Now, you can even do it in video games.

How to Eurostep in NBA 2K20

To complete a play that will Brexit your opponents into submission, move and hold the right thumbstick down while driving with the ball in right hand. (Driving means 'sprinting' to the basket, so you’ll need to hold down R2 on the PS4 and RT on the Xbox One).

Alternatively, you can double tap Square on the PS4 or X on the Xbox One while driving and holding the left thumbstick toward the off hand.
