How to Apply for a Casual Job at Bunnings

As part of our Job Hunt series, we’re reaching out to some of your fave companies to find out what you need to do, to get a casual job there.

Ever thought about what it would be like to work at Bunnings Warehouse, one of the most iconic Aussie stores?

We've reached out to them to find out what jobs students can apply for and what they are looking for when hiring casuals.

We spoke to Maree Fiore, Bunnings National Talent Acquisition Manager about all things working and career wise at Bunnings.

Why Work at Bunnings?

“Our people say they enjoy the flexible and non-formal working environment,” Maree told Student Edge.

Maree also shared that Bunnings provides employees with training and development opportunities which is great for career growth, and they work as part of a close-knit team.

What does Bunnings look for when hiring casuals/students?

“We love the energy and enthusiasm young team members bring,” Maree said.

“We largely hire for culture and attitude and look for people who love working in a team, providing customers with great service and are always ready to lend a helping hand,” Maree shared.

Maree told Student Edge that they look out for confidence and strong communication skills.

Is experience required?

Maree informed Student Edge that, “For many store roles, we don’t require specific experience or qualifications to apply as we provide ongoing training and development for all our team members”.

“This enables our younger team to learn new skills and continue building upon those they already have to set them up for future success”, Maree added.

“We are really supportive of young people who choose to pursue a trade qualification which can springboard into other great jobs, including more specialised roles in our stores,” Maree said.

What’s an example of when students/casuals have stood out in an application or interview?

Maree told us that applicants who have confidence and show their personality and interests in areas like painting, plants or DIY projects always grab their attention.

“Candidates who have flexibility around their availability and can support on weekends are also a standout”, Maree said.

Are there potential career opportunities that students/casuals can grow into within the company in the future?

Maree informed us that there is a wide range of career development options at Bunnings, including extensive training that allows people to grow their career with them.

“We offer a Graduate Program to store team members who are about to complete, or have recently completed, a university degree” Maree told us.

Maree stated that, “The 18-month program involves several rotations within our Melbourne and Perth Support Centres, and gives participants work experience aligned to their study with the support of mentors”.
