Roller coaster to resume 🎢
As part of our Job Hunt series, we’re reaching out to some of your fave companies to find out what you need to do, to get a casual job there.
Ever thought about what it would be like to work at a theme park? Village Roadshow theme parks are probably one of the coolest places you can visit let alone, work at as a student or for your first job.
We've reached out to them to find out what jobs students can apply for and what they are looking for when hiring casuals.
Village Roadshow theme parks have eight different theme parks altogether. These are Movie World, Sea World, Wet and Wild, Paradise Country, Sea World Resort, Australian Outback Spectacular, Top Golf and Village Roadshow Studios, that students can work in.
We spoke to Village Roadshow Group Senior Talent Acquisition Advisor, Jemma Gabriel and Jessie Exner.
Why work at Movie World or another Village Roadshow theme park?
“It’s such a fun environment. It has a great culture and who would be upset working in a theme park?” Jemma told Student Edge.
Jemma and Jessie told us that there are many opportunities available for students which will allow them to gain lots of experience and get their foot in the door.
“Lots of our current employees started in seasonal roles and loved it so much they get offered ongoing positions,” Jessie said.
What roles are available to students?
Most students start in roles such as lifeguards, attraction attendants, food and beverage attendants, retail sales assistant and events banquet attendants.
The team told us that events' banquet attendants and waitpersons are great roles for uni students as it is mostly night and weekend work, allowing students to study and complete any work during the day. Top Golf and Sea World Resort also have some great jobs suited for uni students.
They shared that for younger students, they have a school-based traineeship that allows students to work in food or beverage and retail positions across their properties. While working in this traineeship, students can also work towards their Certificate III in Business. A win-win!
And psst, if you want a job here, peak recruitment periods are August through to December for seasonal roles.
What do Village Roadshow theme parks look for when hiring casuals?

“We are looking for people who want to work hard and earn some money, and who are open and willing to learn, try something new and have fun”, Jessie told us.
“The biggest thing we look for is customer service and people who have that outstanding customer service and can really sell the product of creating memories that last lifetimes,” Jemma said.
Is experience required?
Lots of their seasonal roles like food and beverage attendants, lifeguards and retail assistants don’t require any prior work experience.
Full training is provided for those who are interested in the lifeguard program.
And attraction attendant roles do require a little bit of prior customer service experience due to safety reasons.
Roles in warehouse, tech and machinery workers and marine sciences, do need qualifications and training as these are more advanced jobs.
“There’s lots of opportunities to grow in the company. We have marketing, art studios, finance, marine sciences, operations and entertainment positions too,” Jessie told Student Edge.
If you’re sold on working for a theme park, we totally understand why! Recruitment period is coming up so if you’re interested, head to the Village Roadshow careers page here to view open positions and apply.
