How to Apply for a Casual Job at Coles

I’m looking for a job in groceries 😎
As part of our Job Hunt series, we’re reaching out to some of your fave companies to find out what you need to do, to get a casual job there.
If you’ve ever wanted to work in a diverse environment like a huge grocery store such as Coles, we reached out to them to find out what students should do when applying for a job there.
Plus, if it’s your first ever job, don’t worry, we’ve got some advice for you too.
A spokesperson for Coles told us students of all ages can gain a lot of experience from working at one of their many stores.
“Coles is a workplace that can help high-school aged students or recent school leavers gain invaluable experience and skills in customer service, communication, teamwork and operations as they begin their journey in the workforce,” they said.
“We are always looking for people with different backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives to build a workplace that reflects the diverse communities we serve.”
One thing they did highlight for any keen students hoping to work at Coles, was to take advantage of their Expressions of Interest candidate pool.
“To land a job at Coles, we recommend submitting an Expression of Interest to go into our candidate pool so that you can be contacted when a job becomes available that might be a good fit,” they said.
How do I apply if it’s my first job?
If it’s your first job, it can be tricky knowing what to put on your resume and cover letter.
But Coles gave us a little hint too: highlight any skills, experience or awards you might have gained in school.
For example, you might have learned teamwork as part of playing in an after school football team, or the ability to work on set projects in drama. Make sure you note examples like these down in your resume!
What attributes should I highlight on my resume when applying to Coles?

Well Coles have done the grunt work for you and on the My First Job page on their website, they’ve listed some character traits they're looking for.
These are things such as:
- Enthusiasm and willingness
- A great attitude
- A passion for customer service
- A safety-focused approach
- Reliable and trustworthy
- Pride in presentation.
So, *hint, hint, nudge, nudge*, if you want to work at Coles or you're looking for a Christmas Casual job, we reckon you might want to use some of these words on your resume or cover letter 😉
