Holy Post Maloney, "Sunflower" Has Spent One Whole Year on the Charts

Nevertheless…

Post Malone should treat himself to a new pair of Crocs.

Not only is he enjoying a sixth week at #1 on the ARIA Albums Chart, but his 2018 hit "Sunflower" is celebrating one entire year on the Singles Chart.

That calls for yet another replay, because we clearly can no longer resist its smooth, bouncy rhythm.

"Sunflower", originally released in advance of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (where it played an integral, scene-setting part), first charted down under on 29 October 2018, debuting at #13.

By January of 2019, it hit #1, where it remained for three further weeks. It also pulled off the miraculous feat of getting us to reconsider Posty entirely. We even published an article titled, "What If Post Malone Is Actually Good?" (We still can’t really believe it, but it had to be said.)

Over the weekend, ARIA unveiled their latest chart rankings, with "Sunflower" sitting pretty at #28. That means it has officially spent 52 weeks in the ARIA Top 50. ARIA confirmed to Student Edge that it yet to place lower than #31.

The 8x Platinum single has sold/been streamed more than even Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper’s 54-week-old "Shallow" and Tones and I’s current 19-week-old megahit "Dance Monkey". It is equalled by Lil Nas X’s groundbreaking "Old Town Road", though it hasn’t inspired quite as many thinkpieces/reconsiderations of country music. (We only just learnt to appreciate Post Malone. Give us time!)

Still, the tune deserves to be cranked at top volume as we enter another Aussie summer. Swae Lee’s vocals were practically made for it.

Happy B'day, "Sunflower"! Here's to another year of completely dominating our lives!
