Tones And I Breaks Another ARIA Chart Record With “Dance Monkey”

Pretty all right for a 19-year-old.

Only a year ago, Toni Watson was still busking in Byron Bay, New South Wales. Fast forward to October 2019, and she’s smashing ARIA Singles Chart records.

To be honest, we are still bitter that we can no longer claim Tones and I as solely Australia’s treasure since "Dance Monkey" hit #1 in both Sweden and Norway, but the tune is undoubtedly an international hit.

However, Aussies have totally proved that we love the track the most, because "Dance Monkey" has been sitting at #1 on the ARIA Singles Chart for ten consecutive weeks now. That makes it the longest running ARIA number one by an Australian artist in history.

Yeah, in history. Although, given the song has amassed over 210 million streams globally, it’s not entirely surprising. The previous record was held by Justice Crew, who topped the charts with "Que Sera" back in 2014.

Toni shared the news on Instagram with this adorable selfie.

This isn’t the only record the Byron Bay musician has smashed, however. Tones and I also set a new record for the most consecutive weeks at #1 on the ARIA Singles Chart for an Australian Female Artist, surpassing Kylie Minogue’s 1987 release "Locomotion".

So basically, she’s killing it.

Considering Tones only released her debut EP The Kids Are Coming in August 2019, it is absolutely mind-blowing to think about everything she has achieved in such a short space of time.

Not only did she perform "The Kids Are Coming" and "Dance Monkey" at the AFL Grand Final recently, but Tones has also been singing to sold-out crowds around Australia on her first headline tour. Soon, she’ll head to Europe to play even more shows.

Yeah, there’s really no stopping her total world domination.
