Here Are Six Easy Ways to Celebrate Earth Day

Making a difference doesn't need to be hard.
Today is officially Earth Day; a day to show our support for environmental protection. And what better way to do that than by making some new habits to keep our Earth healthy and happy?
To help you make a difference this Earth Day—and every other day—we’ve created a list of six easy ways to celebrate Earth Day.
1. Plant something.
If you’ve got a garden, you can make a difference this Earth Day by simply planting something in your backyard.
Trees are proven to reduce heat in urban areas, give off oxygen and cleanup the air you breathe.
If you don’t have room to plant a tree, why not plant some fruit or vegetables? You’ll save money by not buying them in the future. Plus, you’re helping reduce emissions by not having to transport food to the store.
2. Ride your bike.
Got somewhere to be today? Maybe you should ride your bike instead of driving.
The average CO2 emissions a car gives off per kilometre is 182g! By simply riding your bike to school or work one day a week can give the Earth a breather and make a big difference.
Plus, you’ll get fit in the process.

3. Get educated.
One of the best things anyone can do is get educated about what humans have done to the planet and how we can reverse the damage.
It doesn’t have to be boring either. We suggest this Earth Day you find some free time and watch David Attenborough: A Life on Our Planet on Netflix. This doco is Attenborough sharing his concerns for the current state of the planet due humans' impact on nature. It’s well worth the watch.
If you’re looking for something more in-depth, try reading We Are All Greta. This book follows in the footsteps of climate activist Greta Thunberg and will give you a well-rounded understanding of the climate problem and solution.
4. Join a cleanup.
Have you ever noticed the litter in our beautiful parks, beaches and national parks? We have.
Part of Earth Day’s goal this year is to remove one billion pieces of trash from parks, beaches, cities and waterways, and you’re invited to join a cleanup to help during this April and May.
Sign up to your local cleanup here or register your own with some mates.
If that’s too organised for you, just grab a rubbish bag and start picking up rubbish in your neighbourhood.
5. Donate to a charity.
If you’re wanting to make a difference but don’t know where to start, why not donate to organisations that specialise in saving the planet?
Locally in Australia there are fantastic charities like Clean Up Australia, Bush Heritage Australia and World Wildlife Fund that do some amazing work that would love your support.
Globally, Coalition for Rainforest Nations or Clean Air Task Force are other good charities, but do your own research to find the organisation that best aligns with your values.

6. Go outside.
If you're doing all that and more why not take some time to go outside and appreciate the beautiful planet that we have?
This could look like walking the dog, going to the beach, having a picnic or even smelling mum’s flowers.
Who said saving the planet had to be hard, aye?
