Excellent: Harry Shearer Is Sticking With "The Simpsons" After All

Harry Shearer’s no longer quitting The Simpsons? That’s unpossible!

The voice behind Mr. Burns, Waylon Smithers, Ned Flanders, Principal Skinner and an absurd number of other Springfieldians has agreed to stay with the show for a further two seasons, Variety reports.

A massive sigh of release was collectively expelled by long-time fans of the iconic program (who probably haven’t actually watched it since the early 2000s anyway) fearing a weird, off-brand replacement voice for those characters.

Shearer initially announced his impending exit from the show via Twitter in May.

His main complaint was that the show’s producers didn’t allow him “the freedom to do other work.”

Welp, it seems the producers are happy for him to do whatever he pleases now, because Shearer has officially negotiated a new deal that will see him return for – at least – seasons 27 and 28 of The Simpsons.

What’s interesting is that, as producer Al Jean previously stated, the rest of the main cast are all on the same deal that Shearer initially rebuffed. Depending on the difference between their agreement and Shearer’s, are we on track to see an even bigger contract dispute in a couple years’ time?
