Facebook Will Let You Use A Video For Your Profile Picture (Soon, And Only On Mobiles)

Finally: more autoplaying videos on Facebook.
As Twitter considers dropping the 140-character limit on Tweets, Facebook is introducing the ability to replace your profile pictures with videos, in what we’ll henceforth refer to as the great social media upheavals of 2015.
In a new clip released to Facebook’s newsroom, it’s been revealed that some mobile-only enhancements are coming to our profile pages.
Firstly, you’ll be able to ditch your profile pic and instead include a short, looping video. Like so:

Secondly, Facebook will now allow you to temporarily replace your profile picture. (I mean, you could already do this manually, but now, they’ll actually let you set a time limit, such as 10 minutes, or an hour, or a week.) The success of the “Celebrate Pride” filter, following the legalisation of gay marriage in the US, inspired the move. 26 million prideful profile pictures can’t be wrong.
You’ll also be able to play around with your mobile profile and select which five of your photos should be highlighted.
So far, only a select number of users in California and the UK have the privilege of these updates, but they’re expected to roll out wider in the coming weeks. So, be sure to check your Facebook app constantly – though you probably don’t need to be told that.
