Everything Revealed in the New "Sherlock Holmes: Chapter One" Gameplay Trailer

It’s anything but rudimentary.

The new gameplay trailer for the upcoming Sherlock Holmes: Chapter One game has revealed some epic new features to the world of detective-style gaming.

No one really knew what to expect, but we had an idea it would be similar to La Noir and Detroit: Become Human. In the latest gameplay trailer, which dropped on IGN earlier today, it’s now been revealed that the game will have a new Global Investigation System as well as more surprising features.

Here's everything that was revealed in the new Sherlock Holmes: Chapter One gameplay trailer.

The Global Investigation System.

Developers of the game, Frogware, have spent a lot of time overhauling their previous system and it seems to have paid off. Their new Global Investigation System looks to be super detailed.

Like LA Noir, the game will include a face study aspect where Holmes can deduce clues from suspects’ facial features; analyse objects to determine how they may have been used; and enter the Casebook where Sherlock collates his clues to deduce who committed the crime.

What’s more, it appears Frogware have taken a page out of the BBC Sherlock series with their own version of the mind palace. Holmes will be able to enter a mini-screen to observe details about character backstories.

Lead narrative designer Antonina Melnykova revealed that the system will tie in well with the gameplay and storyline.

"You can interpret your clues in a number of ways that can lead to different theories. Some of these theories are easier and more convenient than the others, but it does not mean they’re correct,” she said.

“Once you've found your suspect, no matter if they are the right person, you will get a chance to decide their fate.”

Anyone else wanna start cracking cases after reading that?

In-game combat.

Besides the Global Investigation System, the combat system in the game has everyone talking. Holmes has traditionally been one to prefer using his sharp wit over weaponry, but Frogware have said "stuff that" with their version of the British detective.

The amount of combat included in the trailer is surprising, but an exciting move from the creators. Anyone familiar with Robert Downey, Jr.’s version of Sherlock Holmes will remember those scenes where Downey, Jr. mentally breaks down in slow motion how he will defeat his enemy. When time restores, he quickly destroys his enemy.

Seriously, just check it out.

Frogware seems to have used this for inspiration. 'cos they've inserted that cinematic slow-mo combat style into their game.

When Holmes is not swinging fists though, he’s using a gun. You read that right: a gun. Any pre-conceived ideas that remained about Holmes should now be dead, as the trailer shows him using a pistol to defeat his enemies.

It’s hard to say whether this will be a regularly used weapon in gameplay, or just to be used for boss battles and ranged targets, but it’s still cool they have added the feature.

Customise your Sherlock.

One of the coolest features that you could easily miss in the trailer if you're not paying attention is the completely customisable features that your own detective will have.

The character is famous for his disguises both in the novels and the films, and now that's going to feature in the game.

Clothing, headwear, makeup and facial hair are the four categories on offer in the customise screen and we can't wait to explore the options.

Open-world island setting.

Long-time fans of Holmes will be accustomed to a victorian-style British setting. Well, forget everything you knew about that.

This game is more like venturing abroad for a mediterranean gap year. The game will follow a 21-year-old Sherlock trying to solve his first case on an unnamed mediterranean island.

The visuals for the island look great, which will help with the immersive player experience. Plus, the game is said to be free-roam in this open-world.

What more could a gamer want?

Sherlock Holmes: Chapter One will hit shelves later this year an be available on PC, PlayStation 4/5 and Xbox X/S/One.
