So Much Got Cancelled Last Week, Including Video Game Fave, FIFA

Just us or did it feel like almost everything got cancelled last week?

After almost 30 years, FIFA is finito. No, not the actual soccer competition, just the video game.

According to The Oz, the split seems to have come from EA (the makers of the game) wanting more control over the FIFA licence (to make NFTs of all things) and FIFA wanted a billion bucks.

It's not all bad news though—the licence ends in 2023 so there will still be a FIFA 23 released this year and EA will keep making soccer games.

"Everything you love about our games will be part of EA SPORTS FC—the same great experiences, modes, leagues, tournaments, clubs and athletes will be there," Executive Vice President and EA Sports and Racing Group General Manager, Cam Weber, said in a statement.

Phew.

If you can believe it, EA, one of the world's biggest video game companies, first released FIFA International Soccer way back in 1993 for the Sega Megadrive and Genesis consoles (sorry, what even are those?).

That first edition was full of bugs, had no real player names (the players were however named after people who worked on the game), real stadiums or official team logos, and there were only four game modes.

Fast forward nearly three decades and more than 325 million copies of FIFA games have been sold worldwide, friendships have been both united and divided over the results of games, and it holds a Guinness World Record as the highest selling video game franchise of all time.

But, sadly, it wasn't the only thing we said goodbye to last week in what felt like a mass exodus of nostalgic stuff we've loved.

Apple said adios to the iPod and, after 21 years, Gotham Knights is only going to be released on Xbox Series X|S and PS5, which is not good news for the PS4 and Xbox One. Plus, a whole bunch of TV shows were cancelled across multiple networks.

According to Pedestrian, the ill-fated reboots of Charmed, Dynasty and Legacies have been scrapped from The CW.

Meanwhile on CBS, Magnum P.I., Good Sam, and How We Roll are donezo, as are Kenan, Mr. Mayor and The Endgame from NBC.

Make it stop pls.
