Elon Musk and Grimes Have Changed Their Baby’s Name and It’s Just As Confusing

The memes are strong.

Earlier this month, Elon Musk and Grimes announced they had named their baby son X Æ A-12. Naturally, some people didn't believe it, while others were more concerned with figuring out the pronunciation.

Either way, the name spawned countless hilarious memes.

To calm the internet down, Grimes ended up explaining the meaning behind the name. Plus, Elon told podcast host Joe Rogan that it's pronounced "Ash", and then "A-12".

So, if you'd only just got used to saying the name, we're sorry to inform you that Elon and Grimes have decided to change it.

Of course, the internet expected the pair to amend it to something a bit more normal. After all, they must have seen all the memes about their son's future teachers pronouncing his name wrong.

However, in news that should shock no one, Elon and Grimes have only slightly changed their son's name. Instead of X Æ A-12, their baby is now called X Æ A-Xii.

It's possible that the couple were forced to change the name because it was technically illegal in California. Family law attorney David Glass told People magazine that in California, you can only use the 26 characters of the English language in a baby name.

"Thus, you can't have numbers, Roman numerals, accents, umlauts or other symbols or emojis. Although an apostrophe, for a name like 'O'Connor', is acceptable," Mr Glass said.

A fan on Instagram asked Grimes what the baby's new name was, and whether the couple had changed the name due to Californian law.

While Grimes confirmed her son's new name, she didn't elaborate on the details behind the change.

Of course, even more memes have emerged now that the new name has been confirmed.

Although, the saddest realisation of all might just be this.
