Dwayne Johnson Opens Up About Depression, "Crying Constantly"

Trigger Warning: This article discusses suicide.

Dwayne Johnson has opened up about his struggles with depression, revealing to the Express how, at his darkest moments, he was "crying constantly."

"I reached a point where I didn’t want to do a thing or go anywhere," he explained.

Though you wouldn’t glean it from his ultra-positive and inspirational social media persona (and certainly not from his big-hearted performances), Johnson’s early years were rocked with tragedy and trauma.

In the same interview, ostensibly spruiking his new action flick Rampage, Johnson got candid about his mother’s suicide attempt, which took place before his very eyes at age 15.

"She got out of the car on Interstate 65 in Nashville and walked into oncoming traffic," he said.

"I grabbed her and pulled her back on the gravel shoulder of the road.

"What’s crazy about that suicide attempt is that to this day, she has no recollection of it whatsoever. Probably best she doesn’t."

Later, an injury would ruin his dreams of becoming a professional footballer, and a breakup with his girlfriend led to his "absolute worst time".

Overwhelming responses to the interview led Johnson to thank his fans on Twitter.

Several years ago, for the OWN series Oprah’s Master Class, Johnson elaborated on his battle with depression.

"You’re in your bubble and I wish I had someone, at that time, who could just pull me aside and, 'Hey, it’s gonna be okay.'"
