Dreamworld Will Reopen For School Holidays With Charity Weekend In Honour Of Victims

Dreamworld will officially reopen on Saturday December 10 with a charity weekend for the victims of the Thunder River Rapids ride.

It will mark the first opening of Dreamworld’s gates to the public since a tragic incident at the Gold Coast theme park claimed the lives of Roozbeh Araghi, Luke Dorsett, Kate Goodchild and Cindy Low in October.

Dreamworld’s parent company Ardent Leisure made the announcement in a statement to the ASX, the ABC reports.

In the same statement, Ardent Leisure noted that Dreamworld was “expected to incur approximately $1.6 million in one-off costs associated with the tragedy.”

For the special “Open Hearts – Open Doors Charity Weekend” on December 10 and 11, $25 from every guest entry fee will be donated to the Red Cross. Dreamworld will contribute a further $25 to the Red Cross for every guest.

Dreamworld chief executive Craig Davidson attempted to allay visitor concerns in a statement to media.

"Every single attraction opening on 10th December will have passed an unprecedented multi-level safety review, encompassing Workplace Health and Safety Queensland's audit, Dreamworld's internal engineering review, Pitt & Sherry's independent review and the external peer-review by UK based theme park safety specialists, LTC,” he said.

Though the Thunder River Rapids ride is going to be demolished, many of the remaining Dreamworld rides and attractions will be open to the public from December 10, including all slides, pools and cabanas at the adjoining WhiteWater World.
